How it works

Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, and others are among the video games that I play. They are consuming, interactive, competitive and fun. When I first started playing video games many, many, years ago, I played them all by myself. What is great now is that the games can be played with one, two or more people at a time. Teams can be formed and it becomes a game where you work together to win. Of course, this requires a conversation to strategize or just talk.

Video games are one of the most common places for people of all ages to meet their peers and create lifelong friendships.Furthermore, video games are a subject of interesting conversations. On one of my trips to a neighborhood GameStop, I was in the store for over an hour, discussing the game I had just purchased, along with some other ones.

The very first video game was created by physicist William Higginbotham in 1958 and it was called Tennis for Two. It was played by hooking up two separate controllers to an analog computer. William believed that his invention was not innovative enough, so he did not patent it. However, in 1968, Ralph Bear began development on the very first video game console. Pong (technically, Tennis for Two) was the first game on this console and it was released in 1977. The company to release this console and game was called Magnavox Odyssey, otherwise known as Atari. The Creative Computing magazine recognized William, as the founder of video games. Tennis for Two paved the path way for many new and amazing video game classics. Classics like Asteroids, Centipede, Breakout, and Pac-Man. Once video games started, so did the Video Game War which included companies like Nintendo, Sony, Sega, and Microsoft. These companies were breaking in the early stages of human to gaming technology and its limitations were being defined and broken. Advancements to enhanced color, flat screens, 4k visuals, and virtual reality glasses are no longer a thing of the past and are common in so many households. This knowledge of gaming has led to a competitive major tech war among the three largest video game companies, namely, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. Video game popularity has skyrocketed to the point where they even have their own league called E-Sports, shown on ESPN.

Video Games may have started out as a not so innovate invention, but now they are one of the most profitable items available. In 2018, there are now over 2.5 billion video gamers over the world. Of this, 55.2 million are in the United States and I am one of them. Video Games are my passion and I share this feeling with people world wide. The evolution of video consoles and games from 8-bit games like the Atari Space Invaders to the classic Pac Man to Activision and Treyarch graphically, are apparently enhanced in games like Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty and a list of more. I have enjoyed the break from reality to relax with video games and connecting to other gamers. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have allowed us to engage and enjoy various games of single and multi- players, which is great for the socially isolated gamer. Each year now, there are game conventions and trade shows. People travel all over to meet and greet people with similar passions for the games. Video games have opened up a fun way of communication for people who are introverts and extroverts. I have benefited from playing online games. I have connected with other players and have had interesting side conversations while playing. Playing video games has given me a sense of competition, confidence and a camaraderie with others. No matter what the future holds for the advancement of gaming, I am sure that there will be something for me and all gamers to look forward to.
