How it works

Globally in 2014, 1 billion children aged 2 to 17 experienced physical, sexual, and emotional types of violence, according to www.compassion.com. Millions of children around the world are being abused by someone they know and are meant to trust. This includes parents, grandparents, siblings, and close family and friends. These children, very young in age, often don’t understand why they are being mistreated. There are many different types of abuse. I chose to discuss this topic because I feel deeply for the millions of innocent children around the world who are being neglected and mistreated.

The abuse inflicted upon these children, who are meant to come into the world as innocent beings, often comes from unfit parents or guardians. I believe it’s incredibly selfish to mistreat children for reasons that lie with the adults, not the kids. Occasionally, single parents might blame their child for the departure of the other parent, lashing out in misplaced anger on the innocent kid. Alternatively, the parents may be addicts, or they could have deep-seated anger or dissatisfaction with their own lives, and do not want to provide a better one for their child. None of these reasons justify the abuse of an innocent child. If you feel as if you are an unfit parent or may hold resentment towards your child, you should give them a chance at a better life. Consider giving them up for adoption, practicing safe sex, or exploring other options. This is why I chose to discuss this topic.

The first type of child abuse I’m going to discuss is physical abuse. Physical abuse includes intentional acts that cause harm or trauma to a child. There are many different signs that a child is being abused, the most obvious of which is bruising. A child might have multiple injuries, the cause of which doesn’t match the child’s explanation. This discrepancy could emerge from a fear of getting their caregivers in trouble or the fear of inviting further harm.

Other forms of physical abuse include fractures and burns. Sadly, children might feel as though they are at fault for the abuse when, in fact, the root of the problem lies with their parents or guardians. The effects of physical abuse can be wide-ranging, leading to behavioral and emotional problems. A child might struggle with anger, hostility, fear, anxiety, low self-esteem, and humiliation. They might find difficulty expressing their feelings, harbour self-hate and feel a pervading sense of wrongdoing. The abuse may also lead to long-term effects such as brain and eye damage, difficulty in trusting others, and reluctance to disclose their home struggles. It could potentially result in depression, potentially leading to suicide, or substance abuse. There are countless ways in which physical abuse can emotionally scar the child and change their behaviour and outlook on life.
The next type of abuse is emotional abuse. Emotional abuse can include rejecting, isolating, terrorizing ,ignoring, corruption. Verbally assaulting, and overpressuring . emotional abuse is when a parent or guardian verbally assaults or puts down the child. Examples of that could be threatening , name calling , and insulting . Child abuse can actually happen in all types of families. As in families who are having money troubles, when there is a one parent home, there problems with drug abuse in the house, families who are going through divorce ,or families who are having problems with alcohol abuse. The ways that you can tell if a child is being emotionally abused are when the child is looking for attention in other adults , their grades in school start to go down, they could start bed wetting, they complain a lot about their head, and stomach hurting , with no reason to be hurting.
They could also stop wanting to be around others like friends and family. They could also want to hurt themselves. If a child is being emotionally abused away from someone to help is for them assure that the child into therapy. You could give the parent or guardian parenting classes. Or you could try to get them out of the household.
In the united states alone more than 4 children die from child abuse and neglect on a daily basis . Over 70%of these children are below the age of 3.(www.Dosomething.org) So that means very young and innocent children die almost everyday because of unfit parents and or guardians. Children who are being abused and neglected ar sometimes afraid to speak up and say something because they are scared that they will be blamed for it or that no one is going to believe them. It also not easy to recognize when a child is being abused . Every year there are more than 3 million reports of child abuse that are made in the united states.-(www.childhelp.com) children have been being abused for years and years and it’s really sad and depressing thing. It shouldn’t happen at all. There’s no real reason that could justify anybody abusing a child. Its a real sick and twisted thing to do.
The last type of child abuse is sexual abuse. 90% of the children who are sexually abused victims know the person who is doing it in some way. 68% are abused by family members. (www.D2l.org)
So this just goes to show that The children can’t even trust there family members. They are also more likely to not have safe sex when they get older.so it would give them a greater risk of getting Stds . they are also more likely to experience pregnancy at a young age . child sexual abuse is when someone forces a child a minor to do sexual activities that they might not want to do. Some things that sexual abuse can include touching inappropriately, sex, masturbating infront of a minor, having sexual pictures of a minor sending sexual pictures to a minor and making pornographic pictures of a minor, and sex trafficking and exposing yourself to a minor. The majority of the people who will actually abuse a child is someone the child knows personally.
The abuser can trick the child into being quiet about the sexual activities that are going on. Many times, the abuser will use their authority over the child, or they will make the child feel bad, making it seem as if someone doesn’t love them, or that what’s going on is supposed to happen and it’s a normal thing. They could also threaten the child with harm if the child doesn’t want to participate in the sexual activities or if the child decides that they want to tell another adult. It isn’t always easy to tell when a child is going through these types of things, but the physical signs are bleeding or swelling in the child’s genital area, bloody, torn, or stained underwear, difficulty walking or sitting, frequent urination, or yeast infections. Sexual abuse is a sinister type of trauma because of the shame it could give the child afterwards.

With childhood sexual abuse, the child is most likely too young to know how to express what is going on and is scared to get help. According to childhoodtrauma.org, in the U.S., one out of three females and one out of five males have been victims of sexual abuse before the age of 18 years. The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress states that 30% of all male children and 40% of all female children are molested in some way.

Children who experience child abuse and neglect are 59% more likely to be arrested as a juvenile, 28% more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30% more likely to commit violent crimes, according to www.dosomething.com. This could be because the child is not getting the attention that they want and need, so they try and find any type of attention that they can get, just to get someone to notice them. Children who experience being neglected stop living normal lives. Most criminals today have been abused in some way as a child. There are many children that are being killed who are known to protective services. This just goes to show that people must do a better job trying to get these children away from their abusers. There’s not much being done for the children who are going through this. I chose this topic because I feel deeply for the children experiencing this. I know that if I were going through what they go through, I would look towards anyone for help.
