Irony is when somebody says something but actually is the opposite of that. Mrs. Mallard and Mr. Mallard were married. Ms. Mallards had a heart trouble in her residence when she gets the news that her husband is dead. Chopin reveals Ms. Mallards experience by using dramatic, situational and verbal irony. The author reveals that Ms. Mallard experience by using dramatic irony. In the story, the author stated that Josephine is worried that Ms. Mallards has locked herself in her room and is making herself ill. In the text the author says, Josephine was kneeling before the closed door with her lips to the keyhole, imploring for admission.Louis, open the door!

Therefore Ms. Mallards is enjoying that her husband is dead but she did not want to tell anyone or admit it but the audience knows already knew what happens to her and her husband that how the author uses dramatic irony. Moreover, the author also reveals Ms. Mallards experience by using situational irony. In the story the author states that she appears to everyone that she was sad, instead she was relief. For instance, the author says “Wept at one, with sudden, wild abandonment. This means she reacts differently about her husband’s death.

It appears to anyone in the house that she was very sad and went upstairs to be in her room. However, Ms. Mallards is alone in her room but she is not saddened by the loss of her husband but rather she feels relieved. In addition, the author states that she will be free that her husband is dead. The author says, “Spring days, and summer day, and all sorts of days that would be her own. This means that before her husband walks through the front door, she had imagined a life of true freedom, and being her own person. She didn’t know that her husband was not dead. As a result of this surprising event that her husband is alive and she ended up dying from a heart attack. Furthermore, the author reveals Ms. Mallards experience by using verbal irony. In the story the author states that Ms. Mallard want to be free.

For instance, the author says “She said over and over under her breath: free, free, free!. In other words, she wanted to have freedom. She doesn’t care about her husband. It also points out that Ms. Mallards was having a good time without her husband. As the consequence of this Ms. Mallards experiences grief, depression, sadness, and hope within a short time, but she’s happily free from her unhappy marriage. In conclusion, the writer exposed Ms. Mallards experience by using the literary element of irony. The writer uses dramatic irony when Josephine was worried about Ms. Mallards and also when the doctor says that she de from “the joy that kills.

However, the audience knew the truth. Second the writer uses situational irony when Ms. Mallards appear to be sad from the news but instead she was relief, also the writer states that her days will just be on her own. Finally, the writer uses verbal irony to show that she wants to be free because she’s unhappy with her marriage. As a result and consequence of all of thus Ms. Mallard ended up dying when she saw that her husband was alive, now she is dead and she will no be able to be free. A lesson from this will be that everybody should think before they act, you never know what could happen anytime to anybody.
