How it works

Overpopulation has become a much larger and larger problem as the years go on. There are many causes for overpopulation such as a decline in death, improved medical facilities and immigration. Some of these problems that come with overpopulation are increase of wars, increased global warming, the depletion of natural resources and much more.

Some of the reasons why overpopulation has become a problem due to how the discrepancies in the birth rate to death rate. There are many more children being born every year than those that are dyeing in that same period.

A simple way for the world to combat this part of the problem is to reduce the number of children being born every year, if we got the numbers down to where they are relatively similar then that would help to stabilize the population. The other factor that feeds into this is the fact that hospitals and medicine have helped reduce the mortality rate over the years as they have improved over time. They have created cures for diseases that have been plaguing and killing humans for decades. One of the other problems that effects overpopulation in developed worlds is immigration. Many people move to the developed countries due to better medical treatment, education and employment. Due to this those new places themselves become overpopulated as well and as the Difference between the number of people who are leaving the country and the number of people who enter narrows down which leads to more demand for food, clothes, energy and homes (Conserve energy). Due to immigration the demand for those countries’ resources become strained trying to satisfy every bodies demand.

The first major problem that overpopulation causes is the depletion of natural resources. As more and more humans are born the need for resources this causes more of our planet’s finite resources, such as fossil fuels, fresh water, arable land, coral reefs and frontier forests (Everything connects). All of these things have been running out or been highly damaged, with 3.5 billion to 7 billion trees cut down every year (The understories). We also know that the amount of fresh water is running out and that the coral reefs have been dying at a rapid rate with Thirty percent of the coral perished in 2016, another 20 percent in 2017 (James, Lauren). Due to how many people are on the earth there is also an increase in global warming whether it be from increased fossil fuel consumption or just existing on the planet since living person on the planet creates carbon dioxide. Finally, due to the increased in population and how getting enough resources for yourself and your family is becoming more and more competitive which causes people to do whatever they need to survive which on a larger scale would cause wars. Conflicts over water are becoming a source of tension between countries, which could result in wars. It causes more diseases to spread and makes them harder to control (Conserve energy). Due to wars breaking out over resources we also see a higher mortality rate and a rise in starvation due to how those resources constantly being taken.

Overall the effects of overpopulation can be felt all throughout the world and there isn’t a way to solve in right away or by one country. It is something that everybody in the world needs to work together to solve and agree to reduce the rate at which children are born, in the meantime the world can work together to get food and clean water to these developing countries to hopefully reduce the wars and the starvation that many are facing in that section of the world. Overall there is a lot of problems facing the world and it’s going to take everybody to help fix them.
