Hamlet Essay Week Seven

By Hamlet wanting revenge can show that Hamlet is seeking to retaliate to Claudius’s actions and doing an action that he believes to be rightful and fitting towards Claudius, he wants to take action himself to show Claudius of his mistakes, because up until Claudius was praying, it seemed like he did not have an remorse for the action that he had done, so Hamlet was just attempting to avenge his father; Thus it can seem like due to his anger and explosive nature Hamlet might be a malicious person for wanting justice for his father, in certain reader’s point of view it can seem like Hamlet was being to radical towards this whole thing, but in actuality it can be believed that he was acting just compulsively, which can be normal to a large amount of adults. It has to be understood that the reader must make an interpretation of Hamlet’s feelings and in what state of mind that Hamlet is in to commit the action that he has committed, like for example, whenever he is very angry at Claudius and finds out that his father was murdered by Claudius, he is in a state of distress and knows a secret that no one knows, and he knows that if he tells someone that secret, the person will believe that he is crazy because he will end up telling them that A ghost of his father told him Many of the characters probably could not understand him, maybe Hamlet was just misunderstood by the other characters because the other characters were not aware of the motives on why Hamlet was acting in such form.

It can be true that Hamlet had lost his sanity because it can be proved by how he becomes just obsessed with the revenge towards his uncle Claudius and how he seems to not give a lot of importance to his actions of murdering his girlfriend’s (Ophelia)’s father Polonius and just disposing of the body afterwards, it sure seemed like he had no compassion for Polonius and not much compassion for his mother Gertrude, which she had to marry his uncle because that’s how the rules worked back in the monarchy, but sometimes his reasons can be justified like for example when Hamlet decides to do the play reenacting the death of his father, with Claudius murdering his father, it can be affirmed by some readers that this was a necessary step to ensure Hamlet that Claudius had indeed killed Hamlet’s father, by observing the reaction of Claudius, another argument that some readers may have is that Hamlet was mad by seeing the ghost, which can have the counter argument by the fact that the guards were the first ones to see the ghost. But one example of explicit madness of Hamlet can be whenever he acts strange towards his loved ones like Ophelia.

The ploy of revenge of Hamlet can be characterized as something that perhaps he was attempting to fool the people that were watching him and wanted to make sure on what he was doing (spying on him) like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and maybe Hamlet was smart enough to realize that they were doing the spying and wanted to fool Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and consequently end up fooling queen Gertrude and Claudius because Rosencrantz and Guildenstern would just end up telling the royal couple about Hamlet and Hamlet just wanted to be mysterious, unknown and absent minded to everybody that could harm his plan to kill Claudius , so that they would just think that he was harmless and was going trough a mad phase. Hamlet clearly gives Rosencrantz and Guildenstern a hint of him not being mad as it shows whenever he says to them: I am but mad north-north-west: when the wind is southerly, I know a hawk from a handsaw. (Act II, scene II) that can express that Hamlet is only mad sometimes and that can show that he is trying to mysteriously explain that to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, but they don’t seem to have understood that affirmation, and they were not enlightened by any of the other actions that Hamlet committed.

That statement of His madness is poor Hamlet’s enemy. Is characterized by the readers that it can mean that Hamlet was not able to execute his plan rightfully and organized because his madness was what caused all of the mayhem in all of the other characters and it can be shown by the resolution of the play when only two characters have been left alive and most of the characters that have had any contact with Hamlet are dead, it can be concluded that Hamlet has had a role in the demise of some of the characters of this play. But something that he has done that was righteous was to expose Claudius and make Claudius pay for his sinful actions, and he was able to conclude and succeed in his plan, but not in a very graceful manner.
