World War I began in 1914, after Archduke was killed. Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire, which were the central powers fought against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the United States which were the allied powers. By the time the war was over the allied powers won, and more than 16 million people were killed. The assassination of Archduke set off a bunch of events that include, Austria-Hungary blamed the Serbian government for the attack.

On July 28, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia.

Germany began fighting World War I on two fronts. On August 4, German troops crossed the border into Belgium. In the First Battle of the Marne, French and British forces confronted the Germany army.

On the Eastern Front of World War I, Russian forces invaded some of the east regions, but were stopped by German and Austrian forces. The United States kinda kept to the themselves. In 1915, Germany declared the waters and some German U-boats sunk several U.S. ships.

Before World War I, Britain’s Navy was unchallenged. Germany’s strength on the seas was also aided by U-boat submarines. After the Battle of Dogger Bank, which the British made a surprise attack on German ships in the North Sea. German troops launched the last German offensive of the war, attacking French forces in the Second Battle of the Marne.

After suffering casualties, Germany was forced to call off a planned offensive. The Second Battle of the Marne turned the tide of war decisively towards the Allies, who were able to regain much of France and Belgium in the months that followed. By the fall of 1918, the Central Powers were unraveling on all fronts. Despite the Turkish victory, the Turks signed a treaty with the Allies.

Austria-Hungary reached an armistice on November 4. Germany was finally forced to seek an armistice ending World War I. In February 1917, Congress passed a $250 million bill. Germany sunk four more U.S. merchant ships the following month and called for war against Germany. World War I took the lives of more than 9 million soldiers, and more than 21 million were wounded.

Civilian casualties numbered close to 10 million. Every country was affected by the war, bu the most affected was Germany and France. World War One ended at 11 in the morning. Germany signed an armistice that had been prepared by Britain and France. Germany and the allies realised it was no longer possible to win the war. The United States joined the war in April 1917, which gave the Triple Entente greater power.

The leaders of the German army told the German government to end the fighting. Germany’s leader, left his job on November 9th. Two days later, Germany signed the armistice. People in Britain celebrated the end of war. In London, a huge crowd gathered in Trafalgar Square.
