How it works

Introduction

Educational disparities based on race have been evident in the United States for a long time. They exist in many forms example Hispanics and Blacks commonly score low grades and perform poorly on the standardized exams, their number of enrollment in public colleges is smaller than the whites, their drop out level is also high. Study has shown that they get low grades compared to other races Asians included. In the last 45 years in the United States, there have been improvements in academics among all races.

However, the Black and the Hispanic are still ranked lowly, and disparities still exist. The United States education departments show the ethnic performance at every educational level and the number that qualify. The study has shown that about 72% of the whites that finish high school enroll in different universities within the States compared to 44% and 50% of Blacks and Hispanics respectively (Ford, 2014).

It has been noted that enrolment in all the races have increased over the years although the number of blacks is still low compared to the other races in the higher institutions of learning. The enrolment number of Hispanics and Asians has significantly increased since 1976. The six years graduation rate among different races stands at 59% for the whites and 51% of the Hispanics. The blacks came last by recording 46% among the black women and 35% among men. In most prestige graduations the percentage of the whites is always the highest compared to the other races and the blacks being the last as usual. There has been a high level of school dropout among the blacks and Hispanics in the previous year’s although the situation is changing nowadays. In 1993, the dropout rate for the blacks was 16% while Hispanics stood at 33%.

The demand for education has increased, and more people have been encouraged to study. As a result, the drop out level has decreased over the years as more learned people are needed in the society. The demand for education reduced the dropout rate to 12% Hispanics and 7% blacks in 2014.Experts believe that culture affects the academic performance of different races. The white has a culture that loves education, and they appreciate a learned person. They make it a norm that most of their children have to take their academic work seriously, and they do precisely that. Most blacks do not take education seriously or are unfortunate to be able to raise school fees. They end up in the streets, and a good number do not go through higher education after high school.

African American students occasionally are advised to take their education seriously which is the same message among the other races, but they seem not do like they are told and choose their way while still young. They face many challenges, poor communication and end up hiding their home works not knowing what to do. After struggles, they end up perfuming poorly and stop at lower levels.

Conclusion

It is clear that there are education disparities among the blacks and Hispanics. The number of enrolment among the blacks and Hispanics is low compared to the whites. Only a few numbers of blacks and Hispanics make it to the high level of education in the United States.
