Bill Gates Career Timeline

Bill Gates was born on October 18, 1955 in Seattle Washington. He is still alive as of now and has accomplished so much. His parents are Bill Gates Sr. and Mary Maxwell Gates. His mom Mary Maxwell Gates was born in 1931 and passed away in 1994. His dad Bill Gates Sr. was born in 1925. His mom had a career as a teacher. Growing up she was raised in Washington where she went to Roosevelt High School and she got her degree at the University of Washington.

His dad had the career of an attorney. He grew up in Bremerton Washington.

Bill had a good education. To start out he went to a public school where he was doing well but his parents started to worry about him because he seemed more of an anti-social type of person. So at the age of 13 they made the decision to enroll him at Lakeside private school. At Lakeside he began to excel in math and science. For college Bill went to Harvard to study pre law. He later decided to take classes on upper level math and computer science. But after two years of college he dropped out to take on his career of Microsoft with his partner Paul Allen.

Bill has had a lot of accomplishments so far. An accomplishment he had was that he inspired the era of the home computer. When Bill was younger Paul Allen and he had dreams about software. They dreamed of being the impact on many people’s lives. He came up with Microsoft and that achievement helped reach this accomplishment. Bill also helped commercializing the operating system. Since Bill is credited for Microsoft software his company was linked to the operating system to where he got to commercializing for it. Another accomplishment he had was launching windows95. Windows is worldwide used software. About 90 percent of the world uses it. So when he launched windows95 it was a pretty big success.

Bill is accredited to co-founding the Microsoft cooperation. When he was just 13 he came up with his first software program. When he was in high school was a part of a group that computerized the student’s payrolls. He helped form the group to. But in 1975 when he was at Harvard he decided to go join one of his friends back from home. Paul Allen also shared the interest in software. They first started out by adapting BASIC which was a programming language on large computers which was pretty popular at the time. Since that program was a success he dropped out of college. Later Paul and he created the Microsoft they dreamed of and what the world needed.

The global effect of Bill is that now the world has running software. At least 90 percent of the world uses Microsoft. Thanks to his accomplishment the world has an up and running software program. Many student around the world rely on his program to do they’re everyday school activities. Without his program some students would not have the software they use or need for classwork or any other activity.

Bills accomplishments have had a huge impact on my life. For example his software is what runs the computers I use every day for school work. Without his accomplishment I would not be able to do the class work I do. We just would basically do completely different work and our computers would revolve around different software if it were possible.

Bill is a really good role model. He has had so many accomplishments in his life that it’s crazy to think about. One thing about him that had me fascinated was that he came up with his first software program at just the age of 13. He is also a very generous man. He is the second richest man in the world but he still does not look down to others and he gives away tons and tons of his money to charity and to me that is very admirable.

Charles Babbage is credited with the title “the father of the computer”. Charles Babbage came up with the first ever programmable computing device. Grace Hopper came up with the phrase “debugging”. She was at the college where she studied at the time and her associates found a moth in her computer. They removed the moth as they were debugging the computer. There she came up with her phrase.

Computers are categorized by classification. The first ones are mainframes. Mainframes can hold a large amount of storage; they also are pretty high liability. The second classification is minicomputers. Minicomputers have a medium amount of power. The third classification is servers. Servers are designed to carry information out to other computers. The fourth classification is personal computers. Person computers are designed for the use of one person at a time. The fifth classification is embedded system. Embedded systems are designed as a computerized system inside of larger devices.

The internet came around in the 1840’s. Nickola Tesla played around with the idea of a worldwide web, along with other scientists the internet was something they dreamed about coming up with. Dozens of scientists contributed to the creation of the internet. Each scientist added and developed new features to create the worldwide web we know today.

Dozens of different scientist helped to create the internet. The creation cannot be credited to one person. The internet first went by the name ARPANET. The reason the scientist came together to create it was they wanted to have a wireless worldwide connection. The internet has a big impact on everyone’s life. For example many jobs and schoolwork require the internet. Without it the world would function in a very distinct way.

The worldwide web we know today came out on August 6, 1991. Tim Berners-Lee is the creator the web of today. He has now become internationally known thanks to his creation. He was looking for a way that physicists could share information around the globe without all of them using the same hardware or software. He found the way and that lead him into creating the internet.

The computer timeline started in the early 1800 and it goes on into present day.

In 1801 Joseph Marie Jacquard invented a loom that was used to punch wooden cards that weaved fabric designs. Early computers used a similar design.

1822 Charles Babbage conceived a calculating machine to do difficult math but over a century later the world’s first computer was actually built.

1890 Herman Hollerith designed a punch card system and managed to save the government $ 5 million. He also established the company that became IBM.

1936 Alan Turing built a design that was capable of computing anything that is computable.

1927 J.V. Atanasoff tries to build the first computers without any cams, gears, cams, shafts, or belts

1941 Atanasoff and student Clifford Berry designed a computer that was able to solve 29 equations

1943-1944 John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert, build an Electronic Numerical Integrator and a calculator it fills a 20 by 40 foot room and it had 18,000 vacuum tubes. The computer is considered the grandfather of digital computers.

1946 Mauchly receives the funding from Census Bureau to build the UNIVAC which is the first computer for government and business

1953 Grace Hopper develops the first computer language. Which is COBOL

1958 Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce unveil the integrated circuit. It is known as the computer chip.

1964 Douglas Engelbart showed a prototype of what the modern computer looks like with a mouse.

1969 a group of developers at a lab named Bell labs produce UNIX which was an operation system that addressed compatibility issues.

1970 The newly formed unveils the intel 1103 which is the first Dynamic access memory chip

1971 Alan Shugart leads a team of IBM engineers. They invented the floppy disk that let data be shared to other computers

1973 Robert Metcalfe develops Ethernet for connecting multiple computers and other hardware.

1974-1977 personal computers hit the market

1975 Bill Gates and Paul Allen off to write the software for the Altair using basic language

1976 Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started Apple computers which was the first computer with a single circuit

1977 Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak introduce the second apple computer that offers color graphics and incorporates audio cassette drive for storage

1979 word processing became a reality as the MicroPro international releases WordStar

1981 the first IBM personal computer the code by the name “Acorn” is introduced

1983 Apple’s Lisa is the very first personal computer with a GU

1985 Microsoft announces Windows .and the first dot-com domain name is registered. This marked the formal beginning of the Internet history

1986 Compaq takes desktop 386 to the market

1990 Tim Berners develops Hypertext Markup Language giving rise to the World Wide Web

1993 the Pentium Microprocessor advances the use of graphics on Pc’s

1994 Pc’s are used more for gaming

1996 Sergey Brin and Larry Page develop Google Search

1997 Microsoft invested $150 million in Apple

1999 Wi-Fi becomes part of the computing language. This helped connect to the internet without wires

2001 Apple announces Mac OS X operating system

2003 The first 64-bit processor comes available to the market

2004 Firefox 1.0 challenge Internet Explorer

2005 YouTube is founded

2006 Apple introduces the MacBook pro

2007 IPhone allows smartphones to have computer functions

2009 Microsoft launches Windows 7
