“We, the people recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which only what is in for me, a freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our founding ideas, and those who die in their defense” (Barack Obama). Patriotism is defined as love and dedication for one’s country. It is the land of the free, and home of the brave. The word patriotism strikes many different emotions around the United States. Some citizens take it more seriously than others. Some show more patriotism by displaying the American flags in their yards, and on their vehicles. Others can see the word patriotism as negative, disgusting, revolting, hate, and the seed of racism.
Voting is a form of showing patriotism and is very important. It is rooted to convert the power to vote. It gives the voter the opportunity to vote for certain rights in their state, community, and even for their country. The citizens can even vote for their next president for the next four years. The also can vote for certain laws to be changed or passed. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was a tool of democracy.
Military services show and enhances patriotism. It plays an enormous part in showing patriotism in the United States. Showing faith and pride for one’s country is an honorable thing to do, even though some citizens may take it more serous than others. Many families and military troops make sacrifices for out country. Patriotic calling is serving the needs or our veterans.
There are different levels of patriotism. People use different reasons to show patriotism. Its also linked to nationalism and militarism. Patriotism is a virtue. After the disastrous September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, in the United States we are seeing many forms of Patriotism. Many citizens around the United States shows off very arrogantly the American flag. I hope that people soon take voting more seriously. Every vote counts. One vote can make a difference. I believe that showing love for your country and standing up for what you believe in aggressively shows patriotism.
