What separates a mediocre team from an excellent one? Is it the individual players? Or the ability of the coach/leader to lead? Or, when each player contributes to the overall success of the team by playing well?
Often, when we compare teams from one to each other, we tend to be biased. Usually, we base it on individual factors. Such as the strength of each player. Or even the ability of the coach to lead the team. But as we already know, this is not the only determining factor of success in teams
A great team needs solid teamwork.
That’s the most important part of any team. That’s what makes or breaks a team. When talking about a team, it can be in any aspect. Whether in a family, sports, or in the office. Any collection of individuals that has one common goal can be considered a team.
But why do we need teamwork? Why is it vital to the team’s success? Can’t we achieve our goals without having teamwork?
Well, let me ask you this first. What is the purpose of a team? Why was the team even created? Obviously, if basketball were an individual sport, then a team would be useless. But that’s exactly what the sport basketball is – a team sport.
Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships. Michael Jordan
For example, LeBron James has been switching between teams during his career. And with this season, he is with the Lakers. LeBron is currently considered to be the best player in the league. But, even with his credentials and skills, he can’t win the championship every year.
Why? Are his skills not enough? Why is the number one in the league not enough for a team to just basically win the championship every year?
He can’t do it alone because he is faced every time with the Golden State Warriors. You can probably know picture the faces that make up this team. That’s right! When we think of the Warriors, we think of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and many more!
Why do we think of this? Probably because these people have been on this team for so long. Well, except for Durant. But their core players have been on the same team even before they became the strong team they are today. They’ve put in years of hard work to reach a pinnacle of teamwork. Therefore LeBron, however strong, cannot just win the championship easily every season.
Teamwork requires some sacrifice up front; people who work as a team have to put the collective needs of the group ahead of their individual interests. Patrick Lencioni
Aside from this, after the team became mainstream as we know todayrose to the top, their top players were offered to play in other teams. However, they stayed within the Golden State Warriors all these years. Because of this, they became one of the greatest teams in history.
In the end, we can see that teamwork really is important. Let us become a team player in our daily lives and be inspired by these quotes about teamwork.
